Mars orbitor (Mangalyan)

Mars orbitor (Mangalyan)Today is a day of pride for all Indians, as India’s Mangalyaan successfully entered the Mars orbit (media coverage).

Parallels can be drawn between India’s success in the Mission Mars and its success as a software outsourcing destination. Here are the 4 key learnings from the mission that also tell why outsource to India:

  1. We dare to go where not many have gone before. India is the 4th country in the world and the first one in Asia to reach Mars.
  2. Not only we know how to do it right, we have the capability to do it right the first time. India is the only country to get to Mars in the first attempt.
  3. We can pull it off in a short time span. It took India only 3 small years to get from the feasibility study to mission success.
  4. Our price tag is low. Through the adroit use of light components, India did it at a cost less than a Hollywood movie, making it the cheapest mission to Mars (details).

As one can see, these traits can be a boon to a software development project.

Yes.. Totally Agree.. At Rs 450 Crore for 780 million km, the mission cost 5.77 per km. That is cheaper than what many auto-rickshaws charges in the country.

And by the way, this happened. Awesomeness!
